Butterfly Needle vs Vacutainer: Choosing Well
Both are correct tools. The skill is matching the device to the vein and the sample requirement.

Straight needle
Fast, cheap and ideal for a good antecubital vein with multiple tubes. Less forgiving on small or mobile veins.
Butterfly
Shallow insertion angle, better control and visible flashback — the device of choice for hand veins, paediatrics and fragile skin.
Trade-offs
Butterfly tubing holds dead space, so a discard tube may be needed for coagulation samples. Higher cost and more sharps risk.
