Elevators and depressors
The frontalis is the only brow elevator. The corrugators, procerus and lateral orbicularis oculi pull the brow down.
Weakening the depressors while sparing the lower frontalis allows the brow to rise by a few millimetres.
Placement
Lateral orbicularis injections give tail-of-brow lift; medial depressor treatment opens the glabellar complex.
Treating the frontalis too low or too laterally is the classic cause of brow ptosis and a heavy, hooded look.
Case selection
Patients with pre-existing dermatochalasis or compensatory frontalis recruitment need careful counselling; some are better served surgically.
